The Fargo Park District hosted the 26th Annual Santa Village at Rheault Farm November 24 through December 23. During this time there were over 13,637 visitors that came to the event and gave donations to benefit those in need in our community.
Admission to Santa Village is free, but donations are encouraged. People were asked to donate non-perishable foods, new or gently used toys or cash. All donations are given to families in Cass and Clay counties.
During the 2012 Season of Giving, $3,474.66 in cash donations was collected. This was over $1,000 more than was donated last year. The cash donations were distributed to the Giving Tree of Hope and Children’s Miracle Network at Sanford Children’s Fargo. There was 7,938 pounds of donated food given to the Great Plains Food Bank and over 1,000 new and gently used toys were given to the YMCA 21st Century Community Learning Center. Santa Village also donated 2,656 letters to Macy’s, who in turn donated $1 to the Make a Wish Foundation for every letter written.
“We were very excited to see the amount of monetary donations this year,” saysAllison Bakke, Program Coordinator for the Fargo Park District. “People were very generous and their donations helped struggling families provide for their children this holiday season.”
