Cross Country Ski Race & Family Winter-ific Day Rescheduled to this Saturday

The Fargo Park District has rescheduled the Cross Country Ski Race and Family Winter-ific Day to Saturday, February 23. These events were postponed from January due to inclement weather.  Both events will be held at Edgewood Golf Course.

The Cross Country Ski Race will have on-site registration available beginning at 8:15 am on Saturday, February 23.  The event will be a combination of traditional ski races and skating style races for both youth and adults.  There will also be a short 1K ski race for beginning youth.  The on-site registration fee is $17 for adults and $12 for youth.

Family Winter-ific Day will follow the Cross Country Ski Race with a free day of sledding, cross-country ski rentals, snow shoe rentals and Clydesdale sleigh rides.  There will be concessions available at the Chalet and Divots at Edgewood.

Family Day at the Dike

Bring the whole family for a fun afternoon of activities.  The Fargo Park District is hosting Family Day at the Dike from 1:00-4:00 pm on Sunday, February 17 at Dike West.

Indoor Pool Events this Weekend

Destination Anchor IslandGet out of the house and enjoy some fun pool events at the Fargo South Indoor Pool this weekend.  Teen Pool Party will take place from 6:30-9:00 pm on Saturday, February 9.  This event is for middle school or high school students only.  Famililes can come out to Destination Anchor Island on Sunday, February 10 from 1:00-5:00 pm.

TEEN POOL PARTY:
Swim and compete in crazy contests to win cool prizes.  There will be music by Powerplay DJ and great prizes from businesses including Atomic Coffee, Scheels, Erbert and Gerbert’s Subs and Clubs, Hu Hot Mongolian Grill, Noodles and Company, Scheels Arena and Sports Bubble.  Best of all, everything is FREE!  There will also be free pizza provided by Spicy Pie and free Pepsi products while supplies last.

DESTINATION ANCHOR ISLAND:
Enjoy a Sunday afternoon at the Caribbean with music, games, contests and tropical treats.  Try your luck at the limbo and hula-hoop contests or just hang out in the pool.  Prizes will be given throughout the day.  Admission is $2 for swimmers and everyone is welcome to attend.

Frozen Fantasy Family Dance

Frozen FantasyThe Fargo Park District is hosting the fifth annual Frozen Fantasy.  This family dance event will be held from 7:00-9:30 pm on Saturday, February 2 at the Doublewood Inn.

Create some winter magic by bringing the whole family to this semi-formal dance affair.  There will be music, dancing and light refreshments will be served throughout the evening.  A professional photographer will be available to take your family photos.

Hockey Fest

Hockey FestBring the family to a fun hockey-filled day.  The Fargo Park District and Scheels Arena are hosting Hockey Fest from 1:30-6:00 pm on Monday, January 21 at Scheels Arena.

Doors will open at 1:30 pm and free event t-shirts will be given to youth while supplies last.  Sit in the stands and enjoy a free showing of The Mighty Ducks starting at 1:40 pm while you snack on free popcorn and Pepsi products. After the movie there will be a free open skate and carnival games.  Stick around and watch the Scheels Celebrity Hockey Game with local dignitaries and celebrities beginning at 5:20 pm.

Community Gives Back to Local Charities at Santa Village

The Fargo Park District hosted the 26th Annual Santa Village at Rheault Farm November 24 through December 23.  During this time there were over 13,637 visitors that came to the event and gave donations to benefit those in need in our community.

Admission to Santa Village is free, but donations are encouraged.  People were asked to donate non-perishable foods, new or gently used toys or cash.  All donations are given to families in Cass and Clay counties.

During the 2012 Season of Giving, $3,474.66 in cash donations was collected.  This was over $1,000 more than was donated last year.  The cash donations were distributed to the Giving Tree of Hope and Children’s Miracle Network at Sanford Children’s Fargo.  There was 7,938 pounds of donated food given to the Great Plains Food Bank and over 1,000 new and gently used toys were given to the YMCA 21st Century Community Learning Center.  Santa Village also donated 2,656 letters to Macy’s, who in turn donated $1 to the Make a Wish Foundation for every letter written.

“We were very excited to see the amount of monetary donations this year,” saysAllison Bakke, Program Coordinator for the Fargo Park District.  “People were very generous and their donations helped struggling families provide for their children this holiday season.”

Youth Ice Fishing Derby

Bring your ice fishing rod and try your luck at the Youth Ice Fishing Derby.  The Fargo Park District is hosting the Youth Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, January 12 at the South Woodhaven Pond. Registration begins at 12:30 pm and the derby will take place from 1:00-2:30 pm.

Come and try your luck catching perch, bluegill or northern pike in the derby! Trophies will be awarded for the top catches.  The event is free and there will be on-site registration for the derby.  Free bait will be available while supplies last.  Participants must provide their own fishing rod and tackle.  All ice fishing holes will be pre-drilled for participants. There will also be free hot cocoa and t-shirts will be given while supplies last.

This event is held in conjunction with the Scheels Ice Fishing Demo which will be held at South Woodhaven Pond from 11:00 am-4:00 pm. The South Woodhaven Pond is located at 4802 Woodhaven Dr S, Fargo.

The Cross Country Ski Race is also held in conjunction with the Fargo Park District  2013 Winterfest Family Activities.  Other Winterfest Family Activities are:

Additional Outdoor Rinks and Warming Houses Open

The Fargo Park District has opened six additional warming houses and outdoor skating rinks.  The rinks listed below will be open 12:00-8:00 pm through December 31.  On January 1 only Longfellow, Roosevelt, Clara Barton and Kennedy locations will be open from 12:00-8:00 pm.  Regular hours of Monday-Friday from 3:30-8:00 pm and Saturday-Sunday from 12:00-8:00 pm will resume on January 2.

Outdoor Winter Facilities Open Today

The Fargo Park District will open the warming houses at the outdoor skating rinks and the warming house at Dike West Sledding Hill at 3:30 pm today, December 21.  Seven warming houses at the outdoor rinks will open today and additional ones will open as weather allows for better ice conditions.

The rink locations opening today are as follows:

  • Kennedy

Regular hours for the Outdoor Rinks Warming Houses are Monday-Friday from 3:30-8:00 pm and Saturday-Sunday from 12:00-8:00 pm.  They will be closed on December 24 & 25 and then open from 12:00-8:00 pm on December 26-31.

Regular hours for the Dike West Warming House and Sledding Hill are Monday-Friday from 3:30-8:00 pm, Saturday from 10:00 am-8:00 pm and Sunday from 12:00-8:00 pm.  The Dike West Sledding Hill will be closed on December 24 & 25 and open from 12:00-8:00 pm on December 26-January 1.

Free Awesome Art Afternoon

Fuel your energy by creating some one-of-a-kind projects at Awesome Art Afternoon.  The Fargo Park District is hosting an Awesome Art Afternoon on Saturday, December 8 at the RDJ Rec Center.  Come any time between 1:00 and 3:00 pm to spend an afternoon creating fun and exciting art projects.

There will be different stations for children ages 3-12 to create a variety of projects to take home with them.  This is a free event and no registration is necessary.  Adult supervision is required and interaction is encouraged.
