Fargo Parks Kicks Off Season of Giving

Area Mayors gathered yesterday morning to proclaim The Season of Giving in the Fargo/Moorhead and surrounding area.  Santa Village along with the Giving Tree of Hope are excited to present opportunities for the community to give to those less fortunate this holiday season.

Santa and Mrs. Claus hosted the Season of Giving Kickoff and we were entertained by the powerful voices of the Moorhead High School Carolers.

Xcel Energy Gives Grant to Fargo Park District

The Fargo Park District received a $4,000 grant from Xcel Energy.  The grant was made through the Arts & Culture focus area for Xcel Energy’s corporate giving, part of the company’s effort to support nonprofit agencies providing services in towns and cities served by Xcel Energy.

Xcel Energy invests in its local communities with grants, charitable contributions and volunteer time.  Through its focus area grants, they support nonprofit organizations like the Fargo Park District.

Grant funds received by the Fargo Park District will be used toward the Xcelerate Art program.  This will support art programs such as Park Its, Awesome Art Afternoons, Community Play Days, and art projects at other special events.  All of these are provided free of charge for the community.

Breakfast with Santa Tickets on Sale November 13

Breakfast with SantaTickets go on sale Tuesday, November 13 for the Fargo Park District’s Breakfast with Santa.  Breakfast with Santa will be held on December 1, 8, 15 and 22 at Rheault Farm.  The two hour program will begin at 8:00 am each day.

Breakfast with Santa is an opportunity for families to come and have a hot breakfast provided by Applebee’s while they visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus.  There will also be a Magic Show by Jeffrey Salveson and holiday crafts.

Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased at the RDJ Rec Center (1104 2nd Ave S, Fargo) or by calling 701-499-7788. They are available first come first serve and people who are able to come in person will be served before all phone calls.

Youth Curling Open House

culringThe FM Curling Club and the Fargo Park District are holding a Youth Curling Open House to introduce the sport of curling.  The Open House will be held from 2:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, November 4 at the FM Curling Club.

Come learn about curling.  There will be instructors to help you learn about the sport and how to join a league.  This is a free event and everyone is welcome to attend.  Free pizza and Pepsi products will be served while supplies last.

There will be registrations taken at the Open House for the Youth Curling League.  The league is designed for ages 10-18 and will begin Mid-November.  The fee is $55.00 per person and registration is required.

Community Halloween Carnival

The entire community is invited to Courts Plus Community Fitness on Halloween for their annual carnival.  The Community Halloween Carnival will be held on Wednesday, October 31 from 3:30-5:30 pm at Courts Plus.

Before you set out trick-or-treating, join in the fun at Courts Plus for some games, fun and candy!  There will be carnival games, inflatable games by Games Galore, face painting by Fargo South Art Club, art projects, a cupcake walk and candy. This free carnival is for members and non-members.

Moonlight Monster Mash

Calling all vampires, ghosts and skeletons! Get your best costume together and prepare to be spooked at the Moonlight Monster Mash this Saturday, October 20 from 6:30-9:00 pm at the Fargo Youth Commission.

Children are invited to dance the night away with a live DJ.  You can also explore the haunted attic, make a Halloween craft and trick-or-treat for some spooky snacks.  At 7:30 pm there will be a magic show with Beyond Reality – The Magic of Thad Ellsworth.  At 8:00 pm enjoy making balloon animals with LaDitzy the Clown.

Tickets for Moonlight Monster Mash can be purchased at the door.  Tickets are $3 for youth and adults. Fargo Park District Launches New Website

The Fargo Park District is very excited to bring you our new website!  We hope you find it user-friendly and easy to use!  You should find any of the links you need in the top menu bar, bottom footer, of the left sidebar.

Here are a few things to note that are different from our previous website:

  • A search box has been added in the top left corner of every page to make it easier to find the information you are looking for
  • Weather cancelations will always be on the home page under Today’s Weather Cancelations
  • Registration information for programs and classes can be accessed by clicking on Registration in the top menu bar under the Fargo Park District logo
  • Contact information and Opportunities can be found at the bottom of each page in the footer
  • A Forms page can be found at the bottom of the page in the footer to give you quick access to any forms that you may be looking for.

Tickets Available at Door for Hoppin’ Hoedown Dance for Moms & Sons

Hoppin HoedownMoms, step-moms, grandmas and aunts, bring your favorite cowboy to this hoedown party.  The Fargo Park District is hosting the Hoppin’ Hoedown from 7:00-9:30 pm on Saturday, October 13 at the Roosevelt Elementary Gym.  Tickets will be available for purchase at the door.  Prices are $5 for moms, $3 for sons (ages 4-12).

This mother/son event is sure to bring out the cowboy in you. Each boy will receive a bandana and can make a western themed craft.  Spend time dancing to music. Mother/son teams can compete in interactive minute-to-win-it style games.  Earn points at each game and by dancing for your chance to win a BMX Bike given away at the end of the night.

Come in your favorite western style outfit or casual attire.  There will be a photographer to take your western photos and print them out on site for you to take home. There will also be rootbeer floats and other refreshments available for snacking.

Get off the couch this Fall & Winter!

Many people in the Midwest feel a little depression with the end of summer…mostly due to the weather around here.  Fall brings such beautiful colors that it is hard for me not to enjoy it.  No matter how you feel about fall and winter, the Fargo Park District wants to remind you that there are still numerous recreation activities for you to enjoy.

Adult and youth programs take place year round.  If you haven’t already registered for any programs please consider something like Fencing, Pickleball, Cross Country Ski Lessons or Curling.  Or maybe you are more interested in Volleyball, Basketball, an Indoor Walking Program or creative Art Classes for youth.  There are tons of opportunities out there just waiting for you.  Don’t sit on your couch until the weather warms up again!  Get out and stay active and have fun all year long.

Create and Explore with your Child

The Fargo Park District is offering another Create and Explore Art Class on October 4 from 6:00-7:00 pm at the RDJ Rec Center, 1104 2 Ave S, Fargo. This class is for ages 3-5 plus an adult.

Let your children explore through a variety of hands-on activities and projects.  Create and Explore lets you help your children learn to use paint, paintbrushes, glue, chalk and other materials. Dress for a mess!  Adult must accompany child.
